The foundation is the single biggest predictor of how long a shed lasts in Arkansas. Our clay soils hold water, and water is what kills wooden buildings.
Our default for most residential sheds. Four to six inches of compacted crushed stone in a contained frame, extended a foot past the building on all sides. Drains well, costs the least, moves with the soil instead of fighting it.
Good for sloped lots and buildings under about 12x20. Elevates the floor frame, keeps air moving under it, and can be shimmed level again if the ground settles.
The right call for garages, heavy equipment and anything with rolling toolboxes. Costs the most and requires proper thickened edges and a vapor barrier.
Set a building directly on dirt or grass. It looks fine for a season and then the sill rots.
